The Backstory of the Lenoir Kitchen
The clients purchased their forever home in Lenoir, NC back in 2017. They lived in it for almost a year and were ready for some change. Originally being built in the ’70s, the home had no major renovations and was showing signs of age. Eager to start, the couple called us to help with their kitchen renovation.
The couple was familiar with renovations as they have renovated previous homes. They knew the value of having a planning phase and it was important to build their project on paper first. Both retired and ready to start their project, they knew exactly what they wanted. They wanted a transitional style kitchen perfect for entertaining and gourmet meals. Some major key factors to include were: a kitchen/living open concept, more workspace, storage, a more efficient traffic pattern, upgraded appliances, and better lighting.
The Design and Renovation
This project in Lenoir, NC consisted of opening up 3 rooms: the kitchen, living room, and the sunroom. Before the renovation, the kitchen had a traffic pattern that did not work well. Enlarging the kitchen allowed us to design it with adequate space for a comfortable work/entertainment environment. To allow for an open concept, two load-bearing walls and a large fireplace were removed which allowed us to work with a blank canvas. Structural loads must be taken into account when remodeling. For instance, removing the wrong wall could be detrimental.
We love using our preferred vendors to help with our product selections in the planning phase. We like to use products we can put our warranty behind.
To add more workspace in the kitchen we designed it with ample counter space. Doing this also allowed for more cabinetry adding storage. A large, walk-in pantry with a sliding barn door was also added. New luxury appliances were installed in this project making this dream kitchen ready for any chef.
Lighting the area was done through the use of installing new, energy-efficient windows and converting another set of windows into a patio door. The new electrical fixtures including LED disk lights throughout, under cabinet lighting, and pendants also add the right amount of light.
All of the design elements in this kitchen renovation in Lenoir created a space that our clients and their guests will enjoy for many years to come.
