Securing the Future of Housing- A Committed Home Builder

Cody Byrd in Raleigh NC on the NC State Seal

I love my job. I thoroughly enjoy watching people’s dreams come true. I am very lucky to be able to provide for my family doing something I enjoy. Our industry can be so fulfilling changing the lives of our clients. At Vision Design we want all our employees and trade contractors to also be able to feel this way. These are a few reasons why I am involved locally, nationally, and on the state level with the Home Builder’s Association. Giving back to our industry is very important for securing the future of housing for generations to come.
As Vice President of Region 9 of the North Carolina Home Builders Association,NCHBA, I got to spent time with our elected officials in the NC Legislative Building in Raleigh discussing issues important to housing. It was an honor and privilege to represent our region to some of the key decision makers within North Carolina. We held a dinner at the NC Museum of History where we got to speak with our local representatives and senators. The following day was jam packed with appointments with all of our leaders to discuss how important housing is to our economy and several bills we need to have signed into law. The new Sales Tax on Repair, Maintenance, and Installation is one of the issues that was discussed to be clarified. It confuses lots of homeowners and contractors alike. Have you been paying sales tax on repairs?

The Caldwell County House of Representative Destin Hall also gave our group a grand tour of the buildings including the chambers and how day to day operations serve our lawmaking procedures. I encourage anyone to make a trip to Raleigh and visit your legislators. They value hearing what is going on locally.

Housing is the engine that drives our economy! While our industry continues to rebound from the Great Recession, we are only halfway to where we were in 2007. Building Permits fell 67% between 2007 and 2009- 100,000 to 33,000 and just recovered to 50,000 permits last year. Our state’s full economic recovery depends on a full recovery for the housing industry. Simply put, ‘Housing Equals Jobs’. For every new home built, 3 jobs are created and the majority of the money spent stays in the local economy. This also applies to remodeling and renovations as well.

I hope to have a long future in the housing industry for many years to come. I look forward to serving you and your family on your home. It allows all people associated with Vision design build Remodel to reach their goals and dreams as well.
